Organizational Leadership Experiences and Artifacts
Artifact 1 - Perkins Funding
As an organizational leader, I must identify and analyze the major sources of fiscal and non-fiscal resources for schools. Perkins funding is a necessary avenue for administrators to obtain additional funding for technology in the school. The tables above display the class clusters we offer at DC West High School to qualify for the funding. In a world where educational funding is becoming increasingly scarce, it is imperative to explore all avenues for additional funding.
Artifact 2 - Bell Schedule
Every organizational leader must apply a systems perspective, viewing schools as open structures interacting with external environments. This document is a comparison bell schedule from two consecutive school years at DC West High School. Discussion notes are also provided to show the collection of thoughts made by teachers at a staff meeting. This exercise was beneficial for me as I organized the bell schedule and the group discussion that took place in late September 2015.
Artifact 3 - Master Schedule
As an organizational leader, I must understand existing policies and implement practices that provide for the safety, health, and welfare of the educational community. We use this copy of the master schedule with class sizes to identify class sections that we need to manipulate to even out class numbers. A circled class shows a section with low numbers, and an “X” shows a class that is closed due to high numbers. This is an integral process for school leaders as they create the most efficient environment possible for learning in the school school.
